Recipient of the prestigious 2019 BBC Radio 2 Horizon Award and the 2016 BBC Radio 2 Young Folk award, Brìghde Chaimbeul stands as a beacon of Scotland’s vibrant musical landscape. Fluent in Gaelic, her artistry is deeply rooted in her native language and heritage, yet she ingeniously weaves a tapestry of influences, drawing from piping traditions spanning Cape Breton, Ireland, and Eastern Europe.

Chaimbeul’s inaugural album, The Reeling, made its debut to resounding acclaim at a sold-out Celtic Connections spectacle in early 2019, sparking an electrifying response. Garnering accolades, it was hailed as Folk Album Of The Month by The Guardian, earning glowing 5-star reviews from both fRoots and Songlines. BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction showered it with praise, while The Quietus listed it among their Albums Of The Year So Far. The album’s impact resonated further, securing a nomination for the prestigious BBC Radio 2 Folk Award for Brighde and a spot among the top 20 Scottish Albums Of The Year by the Say Awards amidst a formidable pool of 293 submissions.

Beyond critical acclaim, The Reeling has captivated a diverse array of musicians. Icons like Colin Stetson, Sam Amidon, and Anna von Hausswolff have openly expressed their adoration for the record on social platforms. Notably, Super Furry Animals frontman Gruff Rhys extended an invitation for collaboration, leading to a memorable joint performance with James Yorkston in Kirkcaldy.
