DUMA (Nyege Nyege) + Järnbörd
With an utter disregard for genres, they’ve shaken the East African metal scene to its core.
Duma (‘Dark’ in Kikuyu) has emerged from Nairobi’s underground metal scene and consists of Martin Khanja (aka Lord Spike Heart) and Sam Karugu, former members of the bands Dying Breed and Seeds of Datura.
In 2019, they banged their heads together and out comes a unique mix of hardcore punk, trash metal and bone-crushing breakcore, all dressed in a nihilistic noise shimmer.
Duma carries a sinister, raw power, with vocals and lyrics facing pain, aggression and dark emotions.
With an utter disregard for genres, they’ve shaken the East African metal scene to its core. Their debut album was released in August on Hakuna Kulala and was met by tremendous reviews. The band is also part of the by now legendary Nyege Nyege Festival and roster.
Järnbörd is a crust grindcore band with socio-realistic lyrics that will make you think twice about society and its norms.. or not.
Maybe it will just make you wreak havoc.
