China’s Hyph11E is at the forefront of a new generation of producers in Shanghai spearheading the nation’s club music movement. She released her debut EP Vanishing Cinema in 2017 via the influential Shanghai imprint SVBKVLT, featuring remixes from Tzusing, M.E.S.H., and Kid Antoine. The bass-heavy EP boasted dark, formidable sound design arranged into hard-hitting club rhythms and was an exciting signal of the then emerging, now celebrated, vibrant Shanghai club scene. In 2019, she released a collaborative EP with Hakuna Kulala’s Slikback: an explosive transmutation of their respective styles between Africa and Asia. Her debut album Aperture followed in 2020.

DJ Stingray 313

Sherard Ingram is a menacing node in the vast tangle of electronic music’s history, present, and future. As DJ Stingray 313, the Detroit native is an established figure in electro and techno from its earliest days. His Urban Tribe project is testament to this. First appearing on the genre-defining 1991 compilation Equinox, Urban Tribe has coounted Anthony Shakir, Carl Craig, and Kenny Dixon Jr. members of the group. But perhaps Ingram’s most finely calibrated and entirely natural maneuver was under the wing of Drexciya’s James Stinson. Performing with Drexciya’s live unit, Ingram took the “Drexciyan DJ Stingray” identity and conjured a torrential storm from the DJ booth.
These days, relocated to Berlin, DJ Stingray 313 still works on pushing his own sound, always searching like a scientist for new inspirations and aesthetics to make his DJ sets and productions unique. He propagates a seer-like, totalising concept, a nexus of electro, house, techno and beyond. If it sounds intense, it’s because it is, and it’s still just about sweating it out at a club.

Solstice Festival: Denzel, emkay & Jeku

Solstice Festival is a gathering for people who enjoy music, art and nature, preferably combined. It takes place during midsummer (20.-22.6.) in northern Finland next to the Arctic Circle. The festival site, Rukatunturi, is an arctic fjeld which rises half a kilometer above sea level, giving people picturesque views over pine trees and lakes. That time of the year combined with the northern location means the sun doesn’t set at all, creating a unique atmosphere — a celebration of light and life.
