Koppel/Colley/Blade-Collective (DK/US)/Jazz i Malmö
KCB-Collective is the super-trio Brian Blade (drums), Benjamin Koppel (saxophone) and Scott Colley (contrabass).
The trio stands for world-class improvised trio chamber jazz, among others, proven on the record Collective from 2015. And like most things Brian Blade is involved in the collective listening stands in the foreground. In addition to fine chamber music, there are notes of really busy blues when that side is shown. Blade’s creativity on the percussion fits perfectly with Colley’s strong bass impros and Koppel’s lyric saxophone play.
Brian Blade has established himself as one of the most important drummers of the 21st century. His exceptional abilities behind the drums has given Blade the opportunity to work with who’s who within both jazz and other rythmic genres. To name a few, Blade has cooperated with Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Daniel Lanois, and in the jazz world he has been a regular member og both Wayne Shorter’s- and Herbie Hancock’s bands. Lastly Blade has been very succesful with his own projects; The Fellowship Band and Mama Rosa.
Benjamin Koppel is one of the most award-winning musicians of his generation. He has released more than 30 cd’s as band leader and these includes cooperations with giants like Paul Bley, Miroslav Vitous, Phil Woods. In 2011 Koppel became a cultural knight of France for his big contribution to the french jazz via cooperations with Daniel Humair and many more.
Scott Colley, the bassist choice for such jazz legends as Herbie Hancock, Jim Hall, Andrew Hill and Michael Brecker. His remarkably empathetic skills, strong melodic sense and improvisational abilities have served him well in groups led by colleagues Chris Potter, John Scofield, Adam Rogers, David Binney and Kenny Werner.
Mastery comes in many different shapes and constellations. Koppel/Colley/Blade-Collective is one of the most stripped down: sax, bass, rhythm.
