Olibanum: Ljudbilden Boelja + 55 Cancri e

Dreamlike Soundscapes and Poetic Meditations

CONCERT AT MALMÖ KONSTMUSEUM

We know that trees, plants, and fungi can communicate with each other through various forms of signals, such as sounds, scents, and electrical impulses. But can they dream? Can they yearn? This world is mute to us, and we are mute to it. But sometimes – just sometimes – the worlds connect.

Ljudbilden Boelja move in the borderland between electronic and acoustic, from enchanted soundscapes to dynamic pulses and minimalism. In Skovgaardsalen, we experience the tightly woven conversation of sounds, rhythms, and visual impressions they create, in collaboration with the visual artist Magnus Pong. Here, roots and mycelium are intertwined with human nervous systems and electronic circuits, with a liberating intuition that is otherwise only possible in our dreams.

55 Cancri e reminds us that humans also have root systems. Some bind us together with other beings, while others curl downward and inward, deep into our own hidden universes. With voice, guitar, and electronics, she conjures deeply personal stories and meditations that create ripples on the surface of our souls. She creates a space that is undeniably hers, yet every detail also manages to reflect something deeply personal within those who step into it. It is both tempting and slightly unsettling.

Bios:
Boelja (Markus Clemmedson) is an electronic music producer who has played in several bands and groups over the years, primarily as the solo act Boelja and in the group Vidderna with Niklas Tjäder. With his modular synthesizer, Boelja explores the organic nature of synthetic sounds and the interaction between acoustic instruments, generative electronic soundscapes, and field recordings.
Ljudbilden (Kristofer Ström) is a multi-instrumentalist (piano, zither, glockenspiel, clarinet, etc.) and experimental musician with a solid background in instrumental music and improvisation. He has been part of bands and groups like Alé, Adria, Lemko Hall, and currently plays drums in Riding Wounded Animals. His experimental approach to sound and DIY instruments gives his expression a rich texture, with a touch of hopeful melancholy.
The musical collaboration between Kristofer and Markus has been ongoing in various forms for over 20 years. In recent years, their joint music-making has focused on composition, improvisation, and light experiments in their studio in Bjärred.
Magnus Pong, educated at Konstfack, works with visual arts in various media. In recent years, his interest has focused on interactive visuals, abstract visual storytelling, and exploring generative expressions with sound as input. He has collaborated with Ljudbilden Boelja since 2023.
55 Cancri e (Sara Hausenkamp) is a multidisciplinary artist from Malmö who, in addition to music, works with textiles, poetry, comics, graphics, film, photography, and collage. Through the solo project 55 Cancri e, she has created powerful compositions in the form of cerebrally evocative albums and EPs for nearly 10 years. Her multifaceted expressions are deeply personal but also serve as vessels for the listener’s own perceptions, both in the intricately simple and the simply intricate.
