Inkonst and Shako Mako proudly present Zimbabwe’s Queen of Mbira Music

This concert is cancelled due to corona and the current situation in Europe which makes it difficult for international artists to travel to Malmö.

Her Majesty – The Queen of Mbira – as Stella Rambisai Chiweshe is affectionately called, is the first female artist who gained prestige and recognition in a music tradition dominated by men: Mbira music – known as the backbone of Zimbabwean music.

She has been active since the early 70s, where she as a young woman played illegal gatherings in colonized Zimbabwe. Breaking both colonial laws and cultural taboos.
In the 50 or so years since she has never swayed, but only kept pushing boundaries as well as introduced mbira music in an occidental context.

Now having passed 70, Stella is undoubtedly a legend in the truest sense, both musically and politically.

It is a true honour to house her at Inkonst.
