Work-In-Progress: FLOCK – Ellen, Julia & Liam från Hey Elbow
Three musicians meets three dancers in a joined exploration.
After spending a week in residency at Inkonst, members of the local Malmö band Hey Elbow, will present a WIP piece as a part of this year’s Malmö Scen-Förfest program.
The Work-In-Progress piece FLOCK is Hey Elbow’s exploration of social and artistic interplay between music, dance and people. Three headstrong but collectively shaped musicians invite three dancers to be co-creators. The stage and the room are – like the music and the dance – changing and moving.
Improvisation means listening to the impulses of others and is in both music and dance an essential tool for developing, creating and transforming. But can adaptation be limiting? Who really leads whom and what does it say about power?
With FLOCK Hey Elbow wants to investigate issues that have been with them throughout their musical career. The band strives to highlight each individual musician’s personal expression. At the same time, they always create the music together, in a united process. From this dynamic arise questions that are central to FLOCK: What does it mean to insist on one’s uniqueness and go one’s own way? What happens when we adapt and let others lead us?
Music: Julia Ringdahl, Ellen Petersson and Liam Amner. Dancers: Corrado Di Lorenzo, Emilie Jungersen and Robert Logrell. Scenography: Elin Adler. FLOCK is presented at Inkonst together with Malmö Scenfest 2021, funded by Malmö Stad and ABF.
