Frédéric Gies “Warriors: Chiron in Aries, recital #1”

Inspirerade av astrologi och mytologi uppträder fyra dansare till musik av techno-DJ:n Fiedel

I grekisk mytologi var Chiron en kentaur som blev träffad av en förgiftad pil och efter det bar på ett sår som aldrig läkte. I astronomi är Chiron en himlakropp som upptäcktes 1977 och som klassats som både planet, komet och asteroid. I astrologi kallas Chiron för “den sårade helaren”, och representerar möjligheten att läka – både individuellt och kollektivt.

I denna föreställning använder sig Frédéric Gies och fyra dansare av dessa figurer som inspiration för att kanalisera krigaren, och genom dans uttrycka både sårbarhet och djärvhet. I intensiva solon till techno gör de plats för både viljestyrka och motståndskraft.

Inspired by mythology and astrology, four dancers perform to music by techno DJ and producer Fiedel. In intense solos to the techno beat they express an assertive and sheer force of will and a bold desire to resist.

In Greek mythology Chiron was a half-human and half-horse who got injured by a poisoned arrow and carried a wound that would never heal. In astronomy, Chiron is a celestial body discovered in 1977, that has changed status over time from planetoid to comet to asteroid. In astrology Chiron is called “the wounded healer” and represents our deepest wounds and our capacity to heal, individually and collectively.

Now and until 2027 Chiron is transitioning through the astrological sign of Aries. Aries relates to our sense of self, our ego, willpower and desire and represents the warrior within us. When Chiron does this transition it can help us reconnect to a larger sense of self and the identity beneath and beyond the surface of the simplistic categories we have to fit ourselves into.

But Warriors: Chiron in Aries, Recital #1 is neither about astrology nor about mythology. It uses these ideas as symbolic frameworks for making dance. On stage the four dancers channel the figure of the warrior to expose unutterable wounds and a dance that expresses both vulnerability and resilience.

Frédéric Gies is a dancer and choreographer based in Malmö. Approaching forms as possibilities rather than constraints, their dances weld forms seemingly foreign to each other (from ballet to club dances) and bring to the forefront the capacity of dance to speak without demonstrating anything. Their work is also tightly connected to techno.
