Intonal 2022: Naoko Sakata

The Japanese pianist – whose recent solo album Dancing Spirits was released by Anna von Hausswolff’s Pomperipossa Records last spring – brings her improvisatory spirit to Malmö Konstmuseum.

With authentic musicality and creative talent, her music is not part of an ordinary listening experience. Rather, it is the result of an experimental musical approach in which each individual note follows the previous one without any definite principle, except for total freedom. Sakata takes experimental music to its utmost limit. It is an artistic performance that brings to mind natural phenomena because it is unlimited in its expression, impulsive in its performance, inscrutable in its order, faithful and obedient to one thing only: its own existence.
