As evening lowers itself over Malmö, Intonal steps once more beyond the familiar pulse of Inkonst — into vaulted rooms where breath carries further, where stone remembers.

Erik Klinga + Lyn Vokalensemble (Thu 23)
World premiere.
Local darling Erik Klinga has spent the past year composing new material in close dialogue with LYN vokalensemble — Elin Oskarsson, Maja Kamne and Siri Anna Flensburg. His work, rooted in electroacoustic music across ambient, minimalism and restrained electronica, unfolds through texture and duration. The collaboration feels patient, shaped by listening rather than overlay.

LYN move with ease from early polyphony to Nordic vocal traditions. Their practice carries traces of Palestrina alongside pastoral calls, microtonal inflections and overtone-rich resonance. Active within the contemporary folk scene, they have collaborated with Sara Parkman and the choir Tusen Tungor, and form part of XTC in the XIV.

In Klinga’s compositions, elements of Swedish folk tonality enter an electroacoustic field of cycle and synthetic grain. Textures gather into an enveloping environment, then thin out, shift, return. The electronics ripple in their arcs; adding subtle distortions and dissonances at the edges. Within this space, LYN’s voices enter with elusive harmonic weaving and precise, expressive articulations. They navigate the circuitry with steady focus, allowing overtones to settle into the room.

Juli Deák — The Breathing Project (Thu 23)

Juli Deák is part of a younger generation of musicians shaping the contemporary Nordic scene with quiet focus. Despite her age, her practice carries depth and discipline, grounded in classical training while remaining open to improvisation and folk inflection. On flute and saxophone, she sustains melodic lines with patience, allowing phrases to unfold gradually and settle into the room.

Her collaborations with KammarensembleN, Konstmusiksystrar and VENI ensemble reflect a commitment to shared exploration. In Haldamas x Hulajdusza, jazz phrasing meets traditional folk material through attentive interplay and rhythmic clarity. Over time, her focus has turned increasingly toward the physical language of the flute itself — breath pressure, airflow, resonance, and the subtle mechanics of keys and metal.

In The Breathing Project, this inquiry becomes central. Circular breathing extends tones into long, continuous arcs. Breath noise and key clicks remain audible, close and unfiltered. She sings while playing, merging voice and instrument in a single stream of sound. The atmosphere is intimate and concentrated, shaped by endurance and control. Her work has been recognised by the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, and her piece Tamed has been selected for Ung Nordisk Musik Festival 2025.
