In October, MALMÖTXT will be visited by three Nordic authors!

The Finnish author Pajtim Statovci will read from “Kon föder på natten” a novel where a young boy spends a violent summer in his parents' Kosovo and returns there as an adult author. The Norwegian poet and author Steinar Opstad celebrates 30 years since his debut and reads from his new (and first) novel “Tørkesommer”. In his book, we also meet a young boy during a dramatic summer in the countryside. Lina Wolff reads from her August Prize-winning novel “Liken vi begravde”, a story about two children's upbringing in a foster family in Skåne. Naturally, there will also be an open stage.

Want to read on the open stage? Send an email to scen@malmotxt.se! If there are spots available, you can also sign up on-site.

The event is, as usual, free and open to everyone – no pre-registration required. The doors to Inkonst open at 7 PM, and the program starts at 7:30 PM.

Accessibility: The entrance to Inkonst is easily accessible for wheelchair users, and there are no major thresholds to the main stage. There is a toilet in the foyer for those with physical disabilities. Unfortunately, there is no wheelchair ramp to the stage – if you cannot get up the stairs and want to read on the open stage, contact us and we'll arrange it!

MALMÖTXT 60 is carried out with the support of the City of Malmö, Region Skåne, the Swedish Arts Council, and the Swedish Academy.

PARTICIPANTS

Pajtim Statovci (b. 1990) is one of Finland's most internationally successful authors and has been awarded multiple prizes for his novels “My Cat Yugoslavia,” “Tirana's Heart,” “Crossing,” and most recently “My Cat Yugoslavia.” The latter was awarded the Finlandia Prize, the country's most prestigious literary award, and was published in Swedish translation by Ulrika Enckell this spring. Statovci lives in Helsinki and is writing a doctoral dissertation on how animals are represented in literature.

Steinar Opstad was born in 1971 in Stokke, Norway. He debuted with the poetry collection “Boards and Messages” in 1996 and was awarded the Tarjei Vesaas Debutant Prize, the first of many awards. Opstad has published over ten poetry collections, including “A Lasting Longing,” “The Losses of Love,” “To Be Several,” “Under an Inverted Sky,” and the anthology “The Happiest of All Solitudes,” which are translated into Swedish. At MALMÖTXT, Opstad reads from his first novel, “Drought Summer,” which was released earlier this year.

Lina Wolff (b. 1973) is an author, translator, and two-time August Prize winner raised in Stångby and Hörby. She debuted with the short story collection “Many People Die Like You” in 2009 and has since published five novels and the short prose collection “Walks in the Night.” As a translator, she has given Gabriel García Márquez's “One Hundred Years of Solitude” a new Swedish language form. Her latest novel “The Bodies We Buried” was awarded the August Prize in 2025 for its precise and flowing depiction of two orphaned sisters and an unsolved double murder in the darkest Skåne.
