Moran is a pianist and composer from New York who has dedicated her career to exploring the piano — from beautiful, hypnotic structures to sweeping emotional surges. She has delved into extended piano techniques, including John Cage–inspired prepared piano, electronic elements, and improvisation. Moran’s latest album on Warp Records, Don’t Trust Mirrors (2025), is an immersive journey toward reconnecting with oneself and coming back into focus. In Malmö, Moran will perform fully acoustic versions of her works on the museum’s Steinway grand piano, creating maximum intimacy with those who step into her sound world of solace.
About Olibanum: The concert series Olibanum weaves together classical expressions with contemporary experimental music – a collaboration between Inkonst and Malmö Konstmuseum. Olibanum is a fragrant resin that for thousands of years has been a precious and sought-after ingredient in incense – especially in ecclesiastical contexts. This so-called pure incense is believed to contribute to deeper breathing, calm, and self-esteem.

More about Moran:
Kelly Moran is a pianist and music producer from New York who has devoted her career to exploring the piano’s expansive sonic world. As a composer, she has collaborated with a range of visionary contemporary artists, including FKA twigs, Yves Tumor, Kelsey Lu, Oneohtrix Point Never, and The Avalanches. As a solo artist, Moran’s critically acclaimed albums Bloodroot (2017) and Ultraviolet (2018) delve into extended piano techniques, including John Cage–inspired prepared piano and improvisation. Her distinctive experimental piano music – shifting between hypnotic structures and dramatic arcs – has appeared on year-end lists across classical, avant-garde, and metal genres. In 2018, Moran began composing with Yamaha’s most technologically advanced piano, the Disklavier. Her releases Vesela (2023) and Moves in the Field (2024) show an even closer relationship to the instrument, merging human sensitivity with the Disklavier’s boundless capabilities. Moves in the Field was praised by The New York Times as “a softhearted but steel-skinned set of 10 piano pieces that are as rapturous as a waterfall or as delicate as vapor… the redemptive conclusion in an extended span of personal tragedy and professional doubt, all ingrained in its sweeping songs.” Moran’s latest album, Don’t Trust Mirrors (2025), marks her return to synth and prepared piano. The album explores the emotional experience of seeing oneself through reflections and distortions, and the slow process of putting oneself back together. Featuring Warp Records labelmate Bibio, it consists of ten tracks where rich textures and sharp details intertwine. Don’t Trust Mirrors is an immersive journey toward reconnection and coming back into focus.
