Are you a Heathcliff or a Cathy?
Duration: 3,5 h
WUTHERING, WUTHERING HEIGHTS is a participatory, immersive performance in the form of a fan convention. As a visitor, you meet a fictional but devoted subculture. Obsessed with the 19th-century novel ”Wuthering Heights”, they organise a subcultural get-together.
Perhaps you love Emily Brontë's grotesque novel of forbidden love and revenge between the young upper-class girl Catherine and the lower-class boy Heathcliff - where class, gender and desire intertwine in a destructive storm that devours everything in its path? Maybe you've never heard of it. Either way, WUTHERING, WUTHERING HEIGHTS has something for you.
No prior knowledge is required - here we explore how Brontë's drama reflects power and desire in our own lives. Borrow a crinoline or a frilly shirt, borrow your very own Heathcliff and head out onto the bookable moor. You decide how much you want to participate and how long you want to stay.
But know this: if you step out on the moor, you might never come back.
Poste Restante is a critically acclaimed performance company founded in 2007 by artistic directors Linn Hilda Lamberg and Stefan Åkesson. Over the course of nearly two decades, the company has created numerous large- and small-scale performance works. Lamberg and Åkesson have developed an artistic practice that unites site-specificity, participatory formats and performative inquiry. The artistic event is treated as a ”state of exception” alongside everyday life — a space which the audience can retreat to in order to attend to feelings and thoughts that are usually not given any time or place. In Poste Restante’s productions, the visitor is the unpredictable protagonist and the final interpreter of the work.
