DEAFKIDS

Brazilian duo DEAFKIDS (Neurot Recordings) brings its unique sound and aesthetic built over a 15-year career on the roads and stages of the world, incorporating elements of electronic and experimental avant-garde music, Dub techniques, noise, psychedelia and  the hypnotic polyrrhythms and pulsations of native Brazilian and Latin music to the energetic discharge of punk's expanding frontiers.

With their distinctive ever evolving sound, the band from the industrial city of Volta Redonda in Rio de Janeiro has become one of the most prosperous and innovative acts from the underground scene to leave Brazil for international stages today, having played in 4 continents and gaining recognition from national and international audiences and critics with highlights in important media outlets - such as The Guardian, The Wire, FACT Magazine and The Quietus from the United Kingdom, Afropunk, BrooklynVegan, Bandcamp Daily and Revolver Magazine from the United States and Folha de S. Paulo in Brazil - and circulating between venues, festivals, electronic parties and extensive tours throughout Brazil, Europe and North America, including appearances at renowned festivals such as Roadburn (NL), Supersonic (UK), Amplifest (PT), Donau (AT), Avant Art (PL), OUT.FEST (PT), A Colossal Weekend (DK), SWR Barroselas Metalfest (PT), Fluff Fest (CZ), Integraciones (Peru), Obscene Extreme (CZ), Punk Illegal (SWE), Mamba Negra (BR), Novas Frequências (BR), Coquetel Molotov (BR), DoSol (BR), Bananada (BR) - and touring together with bands such as Neurosis (US), Oranssi Pazuzu (FI), Rakta (BR), Test (BR), Bell Witch (US), Sturle Dagsland (NO) and Big Brave (CA).

Over the years, DEAFKIDS built their own visual aesthetic with Leal’s artwork imprinted on a vast and diverse discography totaling more than 20 releases including LPs, compacts, CDs, cassettes and digital released in Brazil, USA, England, Germany, Portugal, France and Japan, with studio albums, live recordings, compilations and collaborations - such as the albums “Live At Sesc Pompeia” together with the band RAKTA,  “DEAFBRICK” (a collaborative record with Petbrick, the London duo formed by Iggor Cavalera and Wayne Adams), “ROAM” - a commissioned collaborative piece with Deafbrick (BR/UK), Duma (KE) and Simon Grab (CH), and a recording produced by legendary Killing Joke frontman Jaz Coleman.

Their fifth studio album was released in 2023 on LP by Nada Nada Discos (BR) and Rapid Eye Records (EU), and Lovers & Lollypops (PT) in cassette. The band brings together a remixed/remastered version of the three EPs previously only released digitally during the pandemic, with the addition of two songs made exclusively for the awarded game “Cyberpunk 2077” original soundtrack. Dystopia reigns in the game, in our world and in the music that manages to capture the surreal feeling of this paradox of survival in contemporary times.
