Emma Bexell began her career as a director, dramaturg and playwright in Stockholm’s independent theatre scene in the early 2010s, and has grown to become a force of experimentation in contemporary Swedish performing arts. Since moving to Malmö little over a decade ago she has been working as an independent artist, director, playwright, and artistic director of Bombina Bombast.
Leaving Bombina Bombast at end of 2024, she now works freelance holding on to the space she has consistently explored: the borderland between art and social engagement, marked by a distinctive curiosity about the human condition in digital times and virtual worlds. With warmth and courage, she tackles the burning issues of our time with a DIY attitude and a belief in the power of art in the pitch-black darkness of capitalism.
Awarded with the Thalia Prize in 2021.
