For over a decade, La Tène has forged a singular musical language from repetition, resonance and slow transformation. Their music unwraps patiently, drawing listeners into rhythmic cycles where folk traditions erupt into something timeless and immersive.
Since their debut ten years ago, the Swiss ensemble has continuously refined an approach rooted in acoustic instruments, minimal gestures and collective momentum. Across four albums and numerous collaborations, La Tène has become known for stretching the possibilities of traditional forms through precision, endurance and subtle shifts in texture.
Their coming sixth album, Melnetta/Tardive (Les Disques Bongo Joe / Murailles Music), opens a new chapter. The hurdy-gurdy, long central to the group's identity, gives way to a stripped-back configuration built around electronic percussion, harmonium and live dub processing. Rather than marking a departure, the new instrumentation deepens the band's fascination with rhythm as a physical force. Pulses accumulate, harmonics bloom and spacious production allows every vibration to linger.
La Tène's performances move with quiet intensity, inviting close attention while remaining deeply corporeal. Their music exists between ritual, trance and contemporary composition, creating expansive sonic environments where time slows and every detail packs weight.
