Matilda Tjäder is a Copenhagen-based artist working across sound, performance, and visual art. Approaching each medium as a site of complex relationships and contracts to be exposed and reworked, her work often departs from a fictional premise. Following an idea to its furthest edge, she allows the fiction to gradually develop its own logic. She is the founder and curator of Scaling, a platform and live-series for time based arts, based in Malmö.
Her work has been exhibited at institutions and venues including Lunds Konsthall (SE), Kunsthal Charlottenborg (DK), SKF/Konstnärshuset (SE), ICA – Institute of Contemporary Arts (UK), The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA (USA), NEJD (SE), RSVP (UK), Die Verabredung (DE), and Malmö Konsthall (SE).
In October 2026, Tjäder will release her second album, Shelf Life, with the London-based label Doyenne. The musical release is based on the performance Shelf Life: An Opera, created in collaboration with Mathias Tang, Penny Yiou Peng, and Thibaut Knapp, and premiered at Inkonst, Malmö (SE), 2025.
